Music was one of the first ways of communication between early human societies, and therefore is engrained within every single one of us. Musicality is something that once nurtured, can develop into a life long love of music that builds the foundation for being a great musician, performer, and musical scholar.
I strive to provide a high quality, enriching and engaging holistic music education to my students regardless of age, ability level, and experience. I work tirelessly to empower my students to unearth their innate musicality, discover and enrich their love of music, and become the best musician they can be.
This education includes a holistic approach. Musically, this means all students regardless of their instrument will receive a foundation in music theory, aural skills, music history, and musicology. However, a holistic education also includes the incorporation of bodily awareness, breathwork, leadership education and development, problem solving and many other skills that on a surface level, seem unimportant but I have found crucial to long term success.
I, Jennifer "Jenny" Walls (she/they) am a violinist, and musician with a passion for sharing my love and passion for music with others, and helping them in their musical journeys. With eighteen years of experience in musical performance, administration, scholarship, and education, I have the personal experience and knowledge of what it takes to not only succeed as a violinist, but what it takes to thrive as a well-rounded musician.
Native to St. Mary's County, MD, I began my after picking up the violin at age 7. At the age of 11, I began to study with renowned violinist, chamber musician, and teacher, Adina Vallandingham of Kassia Music Ensemble and The National Philharmonic Orchestra. In the years since, I have had the privilege of studying with teachers, conductors, and coaches including Maestro Simone Tartaglione, Vladimir Lande, Jose Cueto, Julien Benichou, Inez Redman, Benjamin Smith and numerous other renowned music professionals across the country, and world.
In addition to working with the previously listed, and numerous more, coaches, conductors and teachers over the last 17 years, I also have had the opportunity to perform within, and alongside groups including, but not limited to, COSMIC Symphony, Blue Ridge Orchestra, the UNCA Scholarship String Quartet, Endless Fields, Aspen Trio, and Brooklyn Rider.
Outside of my western classical music training, I have had the opportunity to play alongside, and become immersed in many different genres of playing. Traditional Irish music, Bluegrass, Old Time, Americana, Electronic music and much more to come!
As far as my experience as an educator, it's been nearly a decade since I began teaching in high school, in 2016. Throughout my experience I've had the honor of working with an extremely diverse roster of students with children as young as 2 and adults as old as 83! I've also had the privilege of working with youth orchestras including The Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestra in capacities related to both operations and youth education.
There isn't much I haven't seen in the way of students, and there's no student I've ever come across that I haven't been able to help in some aspect of their playing, musicality, or musical connection.
